Army Nurse During World War II Was Lexington Presbyterian Church Member, Volunteer
Anne Sheppy Beebe, 83, of Lexington, died Friday, January 20, 2006.
She was a U.S. Army nurse during World War II and was later employed by Dr. John McClung in Glasgow.
She was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and the Lexington Garden Club and was a volunteer at the Rockbridge Regional Library.
She was born August 18, 1922 in Kenmore, New York.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. Henry B. Holmes, III; her son, Charles David Holmes; her parents, Charles G. and Emma Sheppy; her stepmother, Sylvia S. Sheppy; and her brother, Charles F. Sheppy.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Roger Beebe, Sr., of Lexington; her son, Henry B. Holmes, IV and wife, Dianne of The Woodlands, Texas; her daughter, Janice H. Davis and husband William of High Point, NC; four grandchildren: Patrick B. Holmes and Caroline G. Holmes of The Woodlands, William G. Davis, Jr. of New York City, and Emily H. Davis of Chapel Hill, NC; her sister-in-law, Thelma W. Sheppy of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two nieces, Deborah Moran of Chicago, Illinois and Sandra Huffman of Pinckney, Michigan; and five stepchildren: Matthew Beebe, Jr., and wife, Ann of Caldwell, Idaho; W. Scott Beebe and wife Sonya of Lexington; David Beebe of Rockbridge Baths; Martha B. Pachta and husband Darwin of Los Lunas, NM; Jane B. Garrett and husband William of Buena Vista; seven step-grandchildren and two step-greatgrandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Holmes Scholarship at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington Presbyterian Church, Rockbridge Area Hospice or to a charity of choice.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Harrison Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2006 in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington.
