NEW SALEM- Ann L. (Gagnon) Bednarz, 69, of 98 Michael Lane, died early Sunday morning, January 1, 2006 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, following an illness.
Born in Holyoke on January 14, 1936, she was a daughter of Arthur and Anna (Buss) Gagnon and grew up in South Hadley, graduating from South Hadley High School.
She was married to Michael J. Bednarz for 45 years till his death on November 16, 2000.
Ann had worked at Athol Memorial Hospital before retiring. She previously had worked at the former Union Twist Drill/Litton Industries and the L. S. Starrett Company, both of Athol.
A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed her family. A gardener, she also did sewing and knitting, loved to go to tag sales for a bargain, and she also enjoyed the company of her dog, "Toby".
Survivors include her daughters, Cindi Hawkesworth of Worcester and Laurie Sault of Petersham; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Norman Gagnon of South Hadley and Robert Gagnon of Chicopee; a sister, Rita Gosselin of Chicopee; several nephews and nieces; and her sister in law, Barbara Hadoucy of New Salem.
She was predeceased by a son, James Bednarz on January 31, 2004.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning, January 5, 2006 at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, January 4th from 6-8PM at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
