Research from Battiato (Contributor #48388243):

Reported age at time of death was 20 years, so evidently born about 1844.

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: John R. BEDELL was buried in Section 2, Lot 1129 - remarks: CSA [no dates or further information reported].

Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 1, shows in her Section B, Lot 128: J. R. BEDELL (no dates) Co I 36 Regt. C. S. A. 186-65 [Note that this is an incorrect transcription of the unit of service, and, rather than the initial "J," the grave monument shows first name "JNO," for John.]

John H. Martin's "The Making of a Modern City: Columbus, Georgia, 1827-65," Volume II (1875), p. 173, under "DEATHS", shows J. R. BEDELL, 10 SEP 1864 [not stated, but - as with other years in this history - these entries evidently taken from Sexton's Reports as published in the local newspaper, the reported being that of interment].

Mary Jane Galer's "COLUMBUS, GA: Lists of People, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866" (2000), p. 246, shows: J. R. BEDDLE [sic] died aged 20 years of "wounds"; buried 10 SEP 1864 (from July to October, 1864, the following report of the Sexton was rec'd for the 3d quarter," dated 10 OCT 1864).

The "Georgia Roster of Confederate Veterans" shows serving in Company K ["Price Volunteers," mustered in Columbus, Georgia], 46th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Army of Tennessee, CSA, the following individuals:

BEDELL, A[lbert] G. - Captain, 04 MAR 1862; appointed 20 MAR 1862 as Quarter-master. No later record.

BEDELL, C[olumbus "Lum"] C. - Private, 14 AUG 1862. On detail with Signal Corps at Charleston, S. C., OCT 1864-26 APR 1865. [Please note: this man is actually buried in Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.]

BEDELL, John R. - Private, 01 NOV 1862. Elected Jr. Lieutenant in AUG 1864. Killed on picket at Lovejoy Station, Ga., on 02 SEP 1864.
