Bedell, William R. - Enlisted as a private in Co. G, 2d Regiment Ga. Inf. April 16, 1861. Elected 2d Lieutenant of Co. C, 46th Regiment Ga. Inf. March 4, 1862. Appointed Adjutant June 17, 1863. Elected 1st Lieutenant of Co. C. Surrendered at Greensboro, N. C. April 26, 1865.

The cause of Mr. Bedell's death was jaundice and malarial fever. Born in Hamilton, GA he was a bookkeeper in the old Bank of Columbus.
He came home penniless after the War and started in the shoe business.

He is survived by his wife and several children. Mr. Bedell was twice married. In 1865 he married Margaret "Maggie" Ware, daughter of Dr. R.A. Ware, one of the most prominent citizens of Columbus. His second wife was Sallie Ware. Both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sons James W. Bedell of Atlanta, Mr.W.A. Bedell, Jr. of Texas, Mr. R.C. Bedell of Columbus, and Clarence Richard Bedell, the child of his second wife, and a daughter, Ellie May Bedell, also of Columbus.
Camp Benning will attend the funeral in a body.
He was laid to rest with a Confederate flag wrapped about his casket.
In the corner of the plate on the casket a small Confederate flag has been engraved.
