Amos Beckwith
Birth: Oct. 4, 1825
Death: Oct. 25, 1894

Civil War Union Brevet Major General. Beckwith began his Civil War service as a first lieutenant in the 1st U.S. Artillery. He later served as chief commissary of subsistence for the Washington, D.C. Depot & for Major General William T. Sherman's army. Beckwith was promoted to brevet brigadier general of U.S. Volunteers on Jnauary 12, 1865 & to brevet brigadier general 2 months later on March 13 for "gallant & meritorious services in the campaign terminating with the surrender of the insurgent army under General Joseph E. Johnston." Finally, he was promoted to brevet major general of U.S. Volunteers for his service in the Subsistence Department. He was a 1850 graduate of the United States Military Academy. He retired as a Colonel in the Regular Army in 1889.
