"BECKWITH -- Daniel Beckwith, aged 80 years, one of Ottawa's oldest and best known citizens, died at his home 1120 Post street, at 1:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning, November 8, 1916. He had been ailing for the past few months and his death is attributed to a complication of diseases. During the civil war he was a member of Company B, Illinois 53rd Infantry. He was married to Miss Josephine Ford and they settled in Ottawa. For a number of years deceased was employed by King & Hamilton. He was born in Freedom township, October 27, 1836. Three children survive him, Mrs. Jessie Robinson, of Ottawa; [Mr.] Chas. Beckwith, Waukegan; and Mrs Louis Tucker, Calexico, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kagy, of Billings, Mont. The funeral was held from the house Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, services by Rev. G. W. Chessman." (Ottawa Fairdealer, Friday, 17 Nov. 1916)
