Ernest Lee Beckham, Owenton laborer, was found dead in bed at his home on West seminary Street by his wife Elizabeth Ella Wilhoite Beckham about 5:30 when she returned home from work at the St. Nicholas hotel. Coroner John Saylor ruled death due to a heart attack.
A native of Owen County, he was the son of William and Ella Dickerson Beckham and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors are five daughters, Christine Combs, Mary Louise Hardin, Dorothy Combs, Eva Hopkins, Ruth O'Banion; three sons, William, John and Herschel, all at home, one sister, Mrs. Lockett Smith; and six brothers, Charlie, Dupuy, Jimmy, Clarence, Ben, and Teddy.
