A. J. BECKER DIES; RETIRED ARMY COLONEL.
Aaron J. Becker, retired U.S. Army Colonel, 75, of 133 Spring Lake Road, died Sunday in Fort Jackson Hospital. He was the son of the late Simon and Katie Harves Becker. He was graduated from Clemson in 1910 and attended the University of Illinois for two years. He was commissioned in the regular army in 1916 and during World War I served with the Sixth Division. Col. Becker served in Hawaii and Trinidad and commanded the 121 Infantry, the Dixie Division, at Fort Jackson. He also commanded elements of the Second Army at Fort Jackson and Camp Forest, Tenn. Two years prior to his retirement, he served in the Pentagon. Since retiring in 1949, he was living in Columbia. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wilkins Becker; two sons, Dr. Allen W. Becker of Austin, Tex., and Robert H. Becker of Norwalk, Conn.; two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Sanders of Hagood and Mrs. Dewitt Whitlock of Calif; a brother William S. Becker of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the graveside in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors. Friends may call at the residence and Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine St. Chapel.
