Mrs. Beckelhymer, who was an orphan at 12, spent most of her life loving and caring for children. She counted among her many blessings the "privilege of helping Doc Johnson (the late Dr. W. A. Johnson, who served the Perrysville community 54 years before his death in 1962) deliver 22 babies." She was not a nurse but always was on call when anyone was ill.
She was born October 11, 1869, in Seddyville, Indiana, the daughter of William and Matilda Tiley Haggart. They were of Scottish descent and came to Stringtown in 1881 to reside with her grandmother, Mrs. Leiza Tilley.
She was married November 12, 1889 to Isaiah Beckelhymer, a farmer of the Stringtown community and he died April 12, 1951. She remained active in church work until recently. Her favorite hymns included "When They Ring the Golden Bells," "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden," "Love Lifted Me," and "Beyond the Sunset."
Surviving besided the daughter with whom she lived are another daughter, Mrs. Homer (Florence) Coffing of Largo, Florida; two sons, Joe of Kingman Route 2 and Paul of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home and friends may call after 2 p.m. today. Services will be at 3 p.m. (EST) Tuesday at West Liberty Church with Ed Zimmerman officiating.
