Obituary of Ernestine Zettel Beaugez

Ocean Springs, MS ~ Ernestine "Ernie" Zettel Beaugez, age 85 died February 21, 2013. Ernie was born on July 7, 1927 in Pass Christian, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Zettel and Elsie Schnieder Zettel; two sisters, Laura Warbach and Francis Beaugez; her brother, Ernest "Sonny" Zettel; and her daughter Tina Marie Beaugez.

Ernie lived in Ocean Springs all of her life. She grew up off of Zettel Road which was on the outskirts of town "in the country" at the time. During World War II, she and her classmates collected scrap metal for the war effort. Due to her family's German descent, their family's radios and hunting weapons were confiscated until the war ended. She graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1946 as valedictorian of her class. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and pole vaulter for the Greyhounds. She worked after school at the soda fountain at Bailey's Drugstore (now Lovelace Drugstore) in Downtown Ocean Springs. Ernie married her high school sweetheart Robert "Chubby" Beaugez and raised five children. While raising her children, she was a dedicated career woman and had a full time job throughout her life. She worked as a teller at Peoples Bank in Biloxi and Ocean Springs State Bank. She spent most of her career as Payroll Clerk at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs. Ernie retired from GCRL in 1994 at the age of 66 with 26 years of service. Amazingly she never learned to drive, so she would catch rides with co-workers, friends, and family everyday to work, the grocery store, or to doctor's appointments. She walked anywhere else she needed to go.

She is survived by, four children: daughter, Kathy Beaugez; sons, Robert "Bobby" Beaugez and his wife Pam; Dale Beaugez; and Phillip Beaugez and his wife Lisa; nine grandchildren: Scott, Tracy, Chandra (Nicholson), Kevin, Amber (Cruthirds), Seth, Ethan, Samuel, and Aaron; and 6 great-grandchildren: Haylee, Meagan, Christian, Dylan, Collin, and Evie; brother Eddie Zettel; sister Elsie Zettel Webber; her niece Evelyn Beaugez Cole (whom she viewed as a sister); and many more nieces, nephews, and close friends. They will all miss her dearly.
