Abel Beatty, a veteran of the Confederacy and for several years a familiar figure on the streets of this city died last night at the home of his son, W. A. Beatty, 618 West Monument Street.

Mr. Beatty was 73 years of age and up to a short time ago was as active as many men of 50; he was a member of the 13th Mississippi, Forest Cavalry during the civil war and possessed a war record of which any one might well be proud.

Mr. Beatty 's family are members of the Baptist Church but the old gentleman was a pronounced admirer of the Salvation Army and the funeral will out of deference to his views be conducted by that organization.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 10 a. m. from the family residence, Capt. Bending officiating; interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
