Betty B. Kidd, 84, of Burgess, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
Betty graduated from Sheltering Arms School of Nursing in 1949. She also married CSM Kenneth E. Kidd on August 6, 1949, and traveled the world as an Army Wife. She made homes in Italy, Austria, France, and Germany. Betty worked with wounded soldiers at the Military Hospital in Ft. Gordon, GA during the Vietnam War. She moved to Virginia after the death of her husband in Vietnam in 1968.
Betty worked side by side her brother at Reedville Medical Clinic and Bay Harbor Medical Center. She was a founding member of the Smith Point Sea Rescue and charter member of the Northumberland Rescue Squad serving for 50 years. Her sewing and crafting skills became very well known, especially her Raggedy Anne and Andy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, CSM Kenneth E. Kidd, her parents, Minnie and Lloyd Beatley; and her brothers, W. Alton Beatley and Dr. Robert Beatley.
She was survived by her daughters, Debby Harding and her husband James, of Suffolk, Virginia, and Peggy Parks and her husband Kenny, of Burgess, Virginia; her sister, Ivy B. Hazelgrove; her brother Irvin Beatley; sister-in-laws, Vera and Chris Beatley; grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Josh, Megan, and Kensley; great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Lucas, and Brody.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Faulkner Family Funeral Home, Burgess, Virginia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairfields Baptist Church, Burgess, Virginia.
She was a loving mom, grandma, momoo and GiGi. Special thank you to Lori, Betsey, Patricia, and Karen for the loving care they provided our mom during her last days.
