Etta Lee was the daughter of James Pleasant and Mary Elizabeth Morris Bearden and the oldest of nine children. She was first married to Carol Holt Loper who was killed in a wagon accident before their daughter, Eathel Holt Loper, was born. Etta second married Penn Lafayette Chitwood, and they had 3 children, two daughters, Lila and Erma, and a son who died at birth. Etta and Penn divorced, and Etta married W. Edward Austell. Etta died from a stroke that happened while she was in the barn milking in the early morning hours.
