Milton A Beard was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Absolem and Metilda Rowe Beard. Milton and his wife, Martha Gray Beard, moved from Lincoln County to Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas in the early 1870's with their two children, Emerson Alford and Nannie Sloan Beard.
He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served as 1st lieutenant in the 41st Tennessee Infantry. He received the Southern Cross of Honor.
He died while visiting his daughter, Nannie Sloan Beard, in Pyote, Ward County, Texas on July 1, 1914.
