Arthur Simeon Bear, 96, of Eldon died March 18, 2006, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born February 8, 1910, a son of Madison and Sadie Abbett Bear. He was married to Lena Brown on September 14, 1933. She survives in Eldon.
Arthur was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church of Eldon, Missouri, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and was active in many areas of the church. He was active in the Masons, the Lions Club and was an honorary lifetime member of the Eldon Country Club. He was involved in many civic and community activities.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children and their spouses, Sandra Sue Bear Shelton and Husband David or Rolla and William M. Bear and wife Regina of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Marc E. Shelton, M.D. and wife Teressa of Springfield, IL, James A. Shelton, MD and wife Dee Dee of Jefferson City, MO, Travis M. Bear and wife Kacy of Seattle, WA, and Courtney Bear of Seattle, WA; a granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Shelton of Rolla; nine great-grandchildren, Heather Shelton George and husband Cory of Bloomington, IL, Coleman Shelton of Durham, NC, Matthew Shelton of Springfield, IL, Kathie Shelton of Jefferson City, MO, Ross Shelton of Jefferson City, MO, Lindsey Shelton of Rolla, MO, Andrew Shelton of Rolla, MO, and Tycho Bear and Ptolemy Bear of Seattle, WA; a great-great-grandchild, Caleb Marc George of Bloomington, IL; two sisters, Susie Pryor of Eldon, MO, and Bonnie Tyler and husband Wayne of Godfrey, IL; and a brother David Bear and wife Myra of Godfrey, IL.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon, MO. A Masonic service was held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the Eldon United Methodist Church of Eldon, MO. The Rev. Michael Keith officiated. Burial was in the Tuscumbia Cemetery in Tuscumbia, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Eldon United Methodist Church of Eldon, MO, or the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation.
