WOODBURY — Barbara (Bean) Pollard, 71, of Woodbury, died peacefully Wednesday, March 6, at St. Mary's VITAS Innovative Unit. She was the wife of Charles A. Pollard.
Mrs. Pollard was born June 15, 1941, in Randolph, Vt., a daughter of the late Earl C. and Lillian (Erskine) Bean. She grew up in Northfield, Vt., before moving to Southbury with her husband. She worked for New Milford Hospital and retired in 1997 from the Southbury Training School after 25 years of employment.
She received a kidney transplant in 1970 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She considered retaining her kidney for 43 years and the birth of her son two years following the transplant to be medical miracles.
Besides her husband of 53 years, she leaves her son, Richard Pollard, and two grandsons and a daughter in-law of Lowell, Mass.; her sister and brother in-law, Janice and Clem Boudreau of Vermont; a sister in-law, Anna Bean, of Oklahoma; a sister in-law, Helen Pollard, of Massachusetts; a sister in-law, Joan, and brother-in-law, Lonnie Cruickshank, of Vermont; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends, especially Pat and Ronald Turmel and Dr. O.J. Bizzozero, Jr., who cared for her for so many years.
She was predeceased by her brother, Avon.
Calling hours will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St., with a memorial service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Berlin, Vt., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterbury Hospital Dialysis Unit, 209 Highland Ave., Waterbury 06708.
