George is the son of Oren S. Bean (born New Hampshire) & Marie (maiden name unknown) of Camden County, Georgia.
When only 16 years old, George enlisted in the Confederate States Army in 1862 at Camden County, Georgia. He was mustered as a private with the 4th Georgia Cavalry under Captain John Reddick and Colonel D. Clinch.
After the war, George married Maggie Catherine Flinn on 15 January 1869 in Glynn County, Georgia. On the 1900 U.S. Federal Census Mrs. Bean stated that she had 11 children but only five remained living. Their children from this union were: Lolly B., Margaret Oren, Roy E., Georgie & seven other unknown children. The Bean's resided in Camden County, Georgia until they relocated to Florida in April 1894.
George filed for a confederate pension, number A03749. His pension was approved on 8 February 1908 retro-active to 8 January 1908.
The birth date of 17 April 17 1848, is incorrectly listed on George's tombstone. He was laid to rest at Galloway Cemetery which has had numerous name changes over the years known as Galloway Cemetery, Sleepy Hill Cemetery, and today it is known as Griffin Cemetery.

He was the brother of William S. Bean (#115122867). George's sisters were Laura Frances Bean Howard, Catherine Augusta Bean Leavy, Orean Bean Lancaster, and Mattie Bean.
