Funeral Saturday For Bertha Adkins
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 8, at 2 o'clock, from the Methodist Church in Rippey for Anna Bertha Adkins. The Rev. Arthur V. Long, pastor of the Methodist Church in Jefferson officiated in the last rites.
Mrs. W. E. Chase and Mrs. Marshall Cain, accompanied by Mrs. Jake Peters, sang the hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Night There".
Casket bearers were Harold Radebaugh, Darwin Johnston, Darwin Thompson, John Hiddleson, Clarence Rice and Vern Derry. Interment was made in the Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Iowa.
Anna Bertha Adkins, daughter of James and Hannah Rhoad Beaman, was born June 1, 1876 in Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa and passed away at Jefferson Iowa March 6, 1952 at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Adkins lived all of her life in Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa.
September 24, 1923 she was united in marriage to Earl Johnson. Mr. Johnson passed away September 27, 1937.
In March of 1947 she was married to Charles Adkins at Jefferson, Iowa.
Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Eastern Star in Jefferson for a number of years, later transferring to Rippey Star Chapter and serving as Worthy Matron when it was organized in 1924.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; one brother, in infancy; and two half-sisters.
Those surviving are her husband, Charles Adkins; one brother, Samuel I. Beaman; two nieces, Mrs. Betty (Paul) Young and Blythe Beaman, all of Rippey, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
