Lt. Col. John Bramblett Beall was born in Georgia to William Otho Beall and Nancy Farmer Chandler Beall. He was the youngest son in this family of 10 children. He married Mary Jane Merrell on Oct. 5, 1862 in Carrollton, GA. She was the daughter of William Washington Merrell and Mary Durham Merrell. John and Mary were first cousins once removed. They were the parents of 9 children: William, Mary, Sallie, Tom, John, Eloise, Millie, Lucy, and Blanch.
John was in the war serving under Col Boyd's Reg. 19th GA volunteers, Infantry. He joined in 1861 in Paulding County, GA. He wrote a book titled "In Barrack and Field" containing poems and short stories about the war. One poem dedicated to his mother was very touching. After the war, he was the editor of a newspaper for many years until his retirement.
