James D. Beall, 89 of Green City, MO passed away Tuesday (June 4, 2013) at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital.
The son Albert N. and Anna (Tharp) Beall. He was born on November 15, 1923 in Green City, Missouri.
Surviving is one sister, Madge Reid and husband Don of Green City, MO; one nephew, Barry Reid and wife Elaine of Green City, MO; one niece, Janna Henry and husband John of Columbia, MO; Two great nieces, Charity Taylor and husband Chris of Green City, MO, and Anna Reid of Moberly, MO; and one great, great nephew, Cooper Taylor of Green City, MO.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
James was a lifelong resident of Green City, MO, leaving only once to serve his country in World War II with the US Army. He graduated from Green City High School in 1941 and was the Valedictorian of his class. Upon returning from the service he built homes in the Green City area and then in the 1950's he opened Jacobs and Beall plumbing located in Green City and remained working their until his death.
James was a dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and to his church, the First Baptist Church of Green City his entire life. He served the church in many capacities through the years including as a Deacon for over sixty years, a Sunday School Superintendent, a job he first took at the age of 13, and as a Sunday School teacher, a position he proudly held from the age 18 until his death at age 89.
James was also a very dedicated member of his local community. He was a member of the American Legion Post 365 where he served as Chaplain. He was a member of the Green City Chamber of Commerce, The Green City Depot Committee and was honored with a lifetime membership for his donation of the Depot building to the city in the 1970's.
James loved gardening and raised two gardens until he was 87, holding to a tradition of planting green beans on July 28th every year. He enjoyed telling stories and was known as the communities' source for historical information. If you wanted to know when a local business opened, where the city sewer lines were located or anything in between you could ask Jimmie and he would know the answer. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, making homemade pies and attending all church functions. Jimmie was also honored to be able to participate in the Central Missouri Honor Flight Program in October of 2009, going to Washington DC with other WWII veterans to tour the National Memorials and Arlington National Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the funeral home with Brother Russell Huff and Brother Don Kelly Officiating. Burial will be held at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Green City, MO with military honors.
In Lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church of Green City, Mt. Olivet Cemetery or to the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
