The funeral for A I Beadle, 89, of Florence, will be Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Florence. The Rev. Gary Formby and the Rev. Leonard McDowell will officiate. The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church from 12:30 until 1:45. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.Mr. Beadle died at his home Saturday morning after an extended illness. A longtime resident of Florence, he was born in Athens on Sept. 15, 1914. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, having served as chairman of the board of stewards, a member of the Men's Bible Class and as the first chairman of the Council of Minsitries. Mr. Beadle was a 32nd degree Mason.Co-founder and president of SBS Electric Supply Co. from 1948-1981, he was a member of IBEW Local 558 for more than 65 years.He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Active in civic affairs, he was a past president of Florence Lions Club and was named nationally as a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Beadle assumed a leadership role with the Florence Chamber of Commerce, the United Fund, the Salvation Army and Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nellie Beadle; three brothers, James, Lester and Calvin; and by four sisters, Thelma Abercrombie, Mae Clemmons, Elizabeth Autry and Ocie Phillips.Mr. Beadle is survived his loving wife of 64 years, Ruby Hall Beadle; children, Anne and Champ Meyercord, of Summit, N.J., Beverly and Greg Watson, Greg and Martha Beadle, all of Florence. He is survived by grandchildren and spouses, Amy and Quinten Stevens, of Darien, Conn., Edward and Andrea Meyercord of Princeton, N.J., David and Hunter Meyercord of Columbus, Ind., Gregory and Britton Watson, of Nashville, Ty and Misty Watson, Zach and Robin Watson, Sam, Will and Liza Beadle, all of Florence; and by 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ora Lou Wagner, of Emmaus, Pa.; his many nieces and nephews and long-time friends.His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Grant, Dr. W.A. Hobbs, Gene Kendrick, Floyd McClure, Boyd Nabors, Fuzzy Perritt, P.E. Sealy, Jim Spain, Charlie Stewart, Glyn Swallows, Joe VanDyke, Ken Williams, Ralph Young, First United Methodist Church Men's Bible class and members of Florence Lions Club.Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Florence Lions Club/Alabama Sight and Hospice of the Shoals..
