MRS. CHRISTIAN S. BAKER
DIES AT HER HOME HERE
Mrs. Christian S. Baker died early Sunday morning at her home on West Frederick street. She was Miss Isabella Frances Baylor, for many years a prominent member of the Staunton bar. She was born in Waynesboro seventy two years ago but moved to Staunton when a child.
For forty years Mrs. Baker had been an invalid but her condition was not considered serious until two days before her death. Although debarred by ill-health from taking any very active part in the charitable movement of the city, she never lost an opportunity to help those in trouble when she knew of suffering and she was most liberal to missions. She kept bright and it always seemed a pleasure to her to have her friends stop in for even a few words when she was not able to get out but was allowed to sit on her porch. She will be greatly missed among her friends as well as mourned by her family.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Mrs. B.L. Stollenwerck of Birmingham and Mrs. Lee Jones of Selma, Ala., and Miss Katie Belle Baker of this city, also by three sisters -- Mrs. J.O. Hobbs and Mrs. Susan C. Eichelberger, of Staunton, and Mrs. Charles W. Freeman of Boston, Mass.
Everything that willing hands and loving hearts could do had been done for her comfort and pleasure. The funeral took place from the home Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock and the services were conducted by Rev. A.M. Fraser, D.D. and Rev. A.D.R. Hancher.
