Grandma Abbott lived in Portland when my twin sister and I would go up and spend a week in the summer with her and Grandpa Abbott. There are many things that Grandma and Grandpa Abbott taught us while we stayed those weeks that I have turned around and taught my kids and now teaching the grandkids. Grandma worked hard cooking in the nursing home, and as I remember it she would walk to work. She ended up with stomach cancer and in those days cancer was most likely a death notice. After surgery which left her with a stroke and paralyzed on one side Grandma struggled to just survive. All the kids helped to take care of her until she passed away.
