Miss Mary Elizabeth Baxter age 91, of West Ave., Carrollton, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 in a local hospital. She was born December 29, 1920 in Carrollton to the late Loyd (Lloyd) Oscar Baxter and Lurlie Mae Williamson (Williams)Baxter. Miss Baxter graduated from West Georgia College and then from the University of Georgia in 1946. She began her career in education as a teacher in the Bremen School System teaching in a one room schoolhouse. Her career path changed, with her leaving the classroom and becoming a Librarian. For a number of years she drove the Book Mobile for the West Ga. Regional Library and retired as the Head of the Media Department at West Georgia College. Her career had ended where it had begun.
Her interest outside education included countless hours as a volunteer with The Guide Dogs Assoc, she was also a long time member of the Carrollton Pilots Club. She was a member of the faith family at Carrollton First United Methodist Church.
A graveside services was conducted at Carroll Memory Gardens Saturday, July 7, 2012 with Rev. Mike Broome officiating. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton has charge of the arrangements.
