Viola was born the oldest of 3 sisters to John Frederick "Tom" and Katherine Hansmeyer "Katey" Duvall both 1st generation from Hesse-Darmstedt, Germany.
She attended high school in Taylorville, IL and came to Davenport where she lived with family friends and was employed Abraham's ladies ready-to-wear in downtown Davenport until her marriage. She could tat and smock. She also played the piano in one of the movie houses before the talkies and could play well into her senior years.
Ray built the house at 161 Forest Road in Davenport, then not in the city limits, where they raised 2 sons, George Ray "Binc" Jr., b 7 Mar 1924, d. 1 Mar 1985 and John Duvall "Tim" b 23 Sept 1929 and d 11 May 1992 all in Davenport.
Vi was president of Visiting Nurse Assn and active in Republican women's activities. At 90 she was still able and living in the Forest Rd. home.
"Ray" died of a heart attack on the living room couch in 13 Apr 1954. Vi died at Davenport's Kahl Home.
