Edith I. Baumfalk, 91, of Beatrice died Sunday morning, July 7, 2013 at the Beatrice Manor.

She was born the oldest of eight children to Fred W. and Rexta (Johnson) Waltke on June 25, 1922 at a farm northeast of Pickrell and attended Little John School.

She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell by Pastor J. B. Reents. Edith married Raymond G. Baumfalk on September 6, 1945 and moved to Pickrell where she lived for 37 years and then came to Beatrice in 1982.

She was employed at Swifts, Steel Tanks, Formfit and BSDC. She also helped Raymond in the custom cabinetry business and Baumfalk Bins.

She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and currently a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice where she was a member of the Women of ELCA.

She enjoyed gardening, camping and coffee time with friends.

Survivors include two sons, Leland Baumfalk and wife Bonnie of Pickrell and Myron Baumfalk of Beatrice; five grandchildren, Scott Baumfalk and wife Kathy of Moseley, VA, Michael Baumfalk and wife Mary of Pickrell, Nick Baumfalk of Wilber, Kim Baumfalk and Kris Baumfalk both of Greenleaf, KS; five sisters, Emma Stevens, Leona Rickers and husband Tjark, Rena Fielder and Marlene McKissick and husband Alan all of Beatrice and Frieda Roelfs of Austin TX; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rexta Johnson Waltke, her husband, Raymond Baumfalk, who died on October 4, 1980 and two brothers, Alfred Waltke in 1930 and Raymond Waltke in 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday July 12, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Bill Shaner and PMA Ernest Waltke officiating.

Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Friday in the fellowship room of the church. A memorial has been established to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. Tuesday until 9:00 P.M. Thursday and then at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday.
