Dessie was born in Wilkes County, NC--daughter of William C "Bill" and Anna Margaret "Ann" Bauguess. Her Bauguess siblings were sister Etta Meade (wife of Stafford Meade), and brothers Blane and Charles Bauguess.

Dessie was deaf; she attended the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, VA where she learned to sew. Later in life she made all the clothing for her children; she could make anything and didn't need a pattern. She made beautiful quilts and was sought after to do sewing for family and friends.

OBIT: Dessie Meade entered eternal life on Sunday, Oct. 18, 1987 at the Whitesburg, Ky Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Dessie was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Bauguess. She was born on Sept 22, 1901 being 86 years and 26 days at the time of her passing. Dessie was the wife of the late Oliver Meade (They had 11 children). Dessie was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.

Surviving are 7 sons: Tate Meade and Luther Meade both of Kingscreek, Ky; Abraham Meade of Hebron, Dempsey Meade of Blackey, Fond Meade of Flushing, Ohio, Otto Meade of Thornton and Talmadge Meade of Kingscreek; 2 daughters Lydia Hogg of Kingscreek, Ky and Beatrice Player of Lexington, SC; 1 brother Everett Meade of Pound, VA; 2 sisters Ettie Meade of Pound, VA and Alma Albert of Long Island, NY; 37 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be conducted Tues, Oct 20, 1987 at 12 o'clock from the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Douglas Piepz officiating. Burial will follow in the Meade Cemetery.

Daughters Hazel and Pauline (died young) are buried here in the Meade Creek Cemetery.
