Dorothy E. "Dottie" Bandy, 93, of Temple, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, October 8, 2012, at her residence. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct 12, 2012, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Chaplain Brent Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 11, at the funeral home.

Dottie was born in Temple, Texas, to the late Ulysses and Etta Baugh. Dottie, a graduate of Temple High School (1937), received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from UMHB in 1941. After graduation she taught 1st grade for the Thorndale school district. The following year she married Dr. David M. Bandy, Sr. ("Doc") and moved to Childress, Texas, where David served during World War II. Four years later, in 1946, Dottie gave birth to their only child, David M. Bandy, Jr. Later that year they moved back to Temple to be closer to their families.

Upon returning to Temple, she was instrumental in helping "Doc" build Bandy Animal Hospital and the rest of his veterinary practice, where she ran the office and also served as a surgical assistant as needed. In 1953 they founded Bandy Laboratories, Inc. and manufactured large and small animal vaccines that were sold worldwide for over 30 years. During this time she served as personnel manager and directed the day to day activities of the company. She also owned and operated V.E.T.S. Company, a retail and mail order supply store, which was in business for over 40 years. Dottie served the community while supporting many organizations. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Temple, and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star.

She served as President for the Bud and Blossom Garden Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club of Temple. Through the years she held numerous offices within both clubs. In her late husband's words regarding his tenure as mayor of Temple, "She was a very active First Lady". She was also able to entertain a crowd as the Master of Ceremonies for the annual Chamber of Commerce Party.

She was preceded in death by husband of 46 years, Dr. David M. Bandy Sr.; and two brothers.

She is survived by her son, David M. Bandy Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Temple; grandsons, David Allen Bandy and wife, Elizabeth, of Temple, and Dwayne Adam Bandy and his wife, Julie, of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Deborah Ann Wood and husband, Travis, of Novato, CA; great-grandchildren, Madeline (Maddie) Bandy, Logan Bandy, Zachary Wood and Ethan Wood; sister, Pearl Potts of Lometa, TX; as well as many other relatives and numerous friends.
