|Birth: ||Jul. 25, 1827|
|Death: ||May 18, 1867|
Daughter of William and Elizabeth Baugh. First wife of Rev. J.D. Anthony. Married Nov. 25, 1847 in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Mrs. Anthony suffered from inflammatory rheumatism, being confined to her bed and chair. She never walked during the last five years of her life. And all this while she gave instructions about running the house; she gave the younger children their basic education; she wove and sold hair jewelry, earning the then handsome sum of $50 a month; and she kept a happy disposition and a happy home.
She made all the arrangements for her own funeral. She selected her burial clothes and picked the spot for her grave; she chose her niece "Josie" as her replacement in the affections of her husband and children. She gathered each of the family to her bedside for a parting talk and blessing, and asked that they sing 'On the Other Side of Jordan in the Sweet Fields of Eden.' Then she passed on as joyously as she had lived.
