Adam Bauer was the third child of Peter Bauer and Anna Maria Emge of Horstein, Germany. Church records show Adam Bauer baptized on 6 September, 1836 (differs from stone). His father, Peter, was a farmer in Horstein, yet he did some coach-driving for local nobility. The family left Bavaria in 1841 and travelled to the USA (New York) on the ship EDINBURGH from Bremen, Germany. By November of 1841 the family was in Woodford County, IL. where his father, Peter Bauer, purchased some land and began farming. Adam Bauer married Susanna Regina Wieland in Worth Township on 15 June 1871. She was the daughter of Sebastion and Elizabeth (Mueller) Wieland. He continued to farm on the family homestead, in addition to becoming a local horse doctor. In 1900 he took the IL exam to practice veterinary medicine and surgery under a "grand-fathering" provision to accommodate those who practiced the art prior to 1899. Adam and Susanna Bauer had 10 chilrdren, 3 of whom died in infancy. After the death of his wife, Susanna, Adam and the families of his children, moved (1905) to Plankinton SD in Aurora CO where he continued to farm among his children's families. Upon his death, his body was returned to IL to be buried with his beloved Susanna at St. Mary's of Lourdes Cemetery.
