Daughter of John Marshall Whiteman and Eliza Buchanan. Frances married William H. Wetzel in 1880 in Wetzel Co., WV. After William's death in 1942, Frances then married Jacob Franklin Batton in 1951 in Wetzel Co., WV.


Batton, Frances Whiteman Wetzel - One of Wetzel County'’s oldest residents, Mrs. Frances Whiteman Wetzel Batton, 102, of Doolin, died Friday at 9 p.m. at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville. She was born Nov. 27, 1863, at New Martinsville, the daughter of John Marshall and Eliza Buchanan Whiteman. She was married first to William Henry Wetzel. Her second husband was Jacob Batton. Both preceded her in death. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are two sons, Marshall Wetzel of Ironton, Ohio, and Wesley Wetzel of Tulsa, Okla.; four daughters, Mrs. Jane Culp of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Linda Summers of Wewoka, Okla.; Mrs. Laverne Summers of Cincinnati; and Mrs. Minnie Price of New Martinsville; 69 grandchildren, 115 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Iams Funeral Home, New Martinsville, where services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with Evangelist Walter Sexton officiating. Burial in North View Cemetery.
