Sgt. Clyde D. Batte, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Batte, Cameron, attended Yoe High School. Entered Army Air Corps in 1943, trained in Texas, Arizona and Louisiana. Served in European Theater of Operations. Awarded Purple Heart and Air Medal. Killed in Action in 1944, over Cologne, Germany.

The body of Sgt. Clyde Batte who was killed in action over Germany on October 5, 1944 is being returned to the United States and will soon be home for re-burial in Cameron. Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Batte, Sr., received notification Monaday that the body of their son will be returned in about 6 weeks. Sgt. Batte was a fortress crew gunner and was killed in a bombing mission over Cologne, Germany. He entered the service in 1943 and was soon in action.
