Dorothy Raye Carter Batson, 85, formerly of Normangee, TX; passed away in Brenham, TX on March 28, 2013. Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville. The family will receive visitors from 9-11AM prior to the service. Bro. Lanier Stevens will officiate. The burial will follow at Ten Mile Cemetery in Normangee.
Dorothy was born on April 21, 1927 in Leon Prairie in Normangee and was the only daughter of Tom and Mavis (Batson) Carter. She grew up in Leon Prairie, graduated from Leon High School in 1944, and was baptized into the Baptist Faith. Dorothy moved to Huntsville and then College Station where she continued her education in the banking industry.
Dorothy married Curtis Reed Batson on December 20, 1952 and they made their home in Normangee. She worked for Farmers State Bank, later First Bank, until her retirement. During this time, Dorothy raised her daughters, Rhonda and Deborah, worked alongside her husband at the family farm, enjoyed reading novels, and spending time with her five grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her twin infant brothers, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda K. Casteel of Cypress; daughter Deborah Lynn and husband Emmitt Glenn Knuppel of Brenham; grandchildren Jason Casteel, Christopher Casteel, Ashley Casteel, James Montgomery, and Lauren Montgomery; and great grandchild Sawyer.
