Janet Cora Bates June 1, 1938-Sept. 13, 2009
Eagle Creek resident Janet Cora Bates, 71, died Sunday, Sept. 13, in Gresham.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Aldergrove Cemetery in Waldport. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Eagle Fern Park in Eagle Creek.
Janet was born June 1, 1938, in Waldport to LeRoy and Cora (Weist) Pankey. She graduated from Waldport High School.
Janet married Chester French. They divorced. On Dec. 22, 1984, she married William Bates in Vancouver, Wash.
Janet worked as a teacher's aide in Estacada. She resided in Waldport and Estacada before moving to Eagle Creek, where she lived for the past 25 years. Her interests included camping and being in the outdoors. She was happiest when her family was with her.
Her sister, Marian Casey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Robert French of Estacada, J.R. French of Estacada and Greg William Bates of Estacada; daughters, Janette French Marsolina of Canby, Jane French Kawashima of Alaska, Lori Paul of Tooele, Utah, and Brenda Lemonjello of Tooele; brothers, Ramon Pankey of Waldport and Gary Pankey of La Pine; and 10 grandchildren.
