Lela Barnes, 83, died December 18, 2003, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Barnes was born April 18, 1920, in Mena, Arkansas to Alex and Ida Reynolds Bates. She lived most of her life in Fort Towson, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Barnes, May 31, 1991.

Mrs. Barnes wrote the Fort Towson News column for the Hugo Daily News for several years. She was also well known for her Minnie Pearl imitation that she performed locally.

She was a member of Rock Assembly of God Church in Fort Towson.

She was survived by four daughters, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces, and several nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Monday, December 22, 2003, at Rock Assembly of God Church in Fort Towson with Reverend Jerry Cooper officiating, assisted by Reverend Robert Haynes. Interment was in Fort Towson cemetery.
