Pearl McCall Bates, age 101, of Marion, went to be with her Lord, on March 29, 2008 at her residence. She was born, October 22, 1906 in McDowell County to the late William Marvin and Katie Biddix McCall. Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and a member of the Hefner Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Arvel Samuel Bates and two sons James Cecil Bates, Virgil Wayne Bates and grandson Samuel Ray Bates.
Mrs. Bates leaves behind three children: Lois Hollifield, Margie Durham and husband Carl and Earl Bates and wife Len all of Marion; eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 1, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel with the Reverend Mark Hollifield officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Ashford Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 575 Airport Road, Marion NC 28752.
