Ruth Bates, 86, of Electric City, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in the Coulee Community Hospital in Grand Coulee.
She was born March 30, 1913 in Coulee City to Arthur and Edith (Withers) Irwin. Ruth was a daughter of the early settlers of the Del Rio area, where she grew up on a cattle ranch. The majority of her life was spent in Coulee.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Richard and Shirley Larson of Bainbridge Island; one sister, Jean Franks of Seattle; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was affectionately called "Grandy" by grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Walter, three sisters, Winifred Carr, Alice Zinn and Peggy Salters; two brothers, Robert Irwin and Arden Irwin, her husbands, Richard Larson, Pete Dumas and Gene Bates.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Strate Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Coulee. Burial will follow in the Spring Canyon Cemetery.
