Funeral services for Sidney Posey Bates, 81, of Route 1, Brandon, were held Sunday, August 30, at 2:00p.m. from the Leesburg Baptist Church with the Rev. M.C. Whitten, Rev. Odell Thrash, and Rev. R.W. Porter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Ott & Lee Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Bates died at his home on Friday night. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Andrew Chapel Baptist Church.
The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Sadie Bates; four daughters, Mrs. Ed Wilson of Pelahatchie, Mrs. O.N. Aycock and Mrs. John Windham, both of Meridian, and Mrs. W.H. Craven of Laurel; one step-daughter, Mrs. C.E. Bardwell of Brandon; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Robert Williams, and Mrs. Elmo Wilson, both of Morton, Mrs. J.F. Tucker of Lake, and Mrs. R.L. Thrash of Pelahatchie.
The pallbearers were G.J. Thrash, J.C. Robinson, Otis Wilson, John William Harrell, James E. Shoemaker, and R.J. Waltman.
