Word was received in Ionia Wednesday by Mrs. William Oosterhof of the death of her sister's husband, Robert William Bates, of Portland.
He died unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. He was taken to his home Tuesday from Blodgett hospital in Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Bates is the former Miss Leona LaDue of Ionia, daughter of Mrs. Bessie LaDue. Mr. Bates had been ill for about a month but his death was not expected.
He is the son of Mrs. Bauer of Portland. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
