Medway – Maxine J. King, 90, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 20, 2016 at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 13, 1925 in Etna, the daughter of Miles and Alyce (Cole) Bates.

Maxine worked for many years as a custodian for the Medway school department. She was a very dedicated and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a very loyal sister, aunt, and friend. Her house was always spotless, and even cleaned as recently as last week while enduring a heart attack! Maxine stayed in frequent contact with her family, and was always looking after her adult children, grandchildren, and extended family members when they were sick. She frequently cooked, and her whoopie pies will especially be missed by those who knew her. Maxine was also an avid puzzle worker. Those who knew and loved her will fondly remember her for the wonderful example she set for living a full and active life.

Maxine is survived by four daughters, Emma Haskell and her husband Lawrence of Millinocket, Coralee Thompson and her husband Norman of Medway, Alyce Hart and her husband Ralph of Buckfield, and Lydia Finson of Medway; five sons, James Finson of Stacyville, Thomas Finson of Greenbush, Leroy Finson and his wife Heidi of Charleston, Wade Finson of Frankfort, and Richard King and his wife Kelly of East Millinocket; two step daughters, Peggy Kissinger of California, and Barbara Day of Woodville; two sisters, Dorothy Willett of Patten, and Phyllis Cole of Houlton; two sisters in law, Cecile Bates of New Hampshire, and Dorothy Bates of East Holden; twenty three grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a great great grandson to be born in a few weeks; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maxine will also be missed by her special friends and caregivers, Jeannie and Barbara.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Frank Finson and Levi King, a daughter, Sharon Finson, a son, Robert King, a granddaughter, Sharon Hart, a great grandson, Nathan Cole King, and two brothers, Robert Bates and Joseph Bates.

Graveside services will be held in the springtime at the Grindstone Cemetery in Medway, where she will be buried with her husband, Levi King. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Millinocket. (Bangor Daily News 2/23/2016)
