Funeral services are set Thursday for Mrs. Mattie Bell Bates of 324 Boston North, Chicago Heights, who was killed Friday in a car-train accident in Harvey.
Services will be held at Christ Temple No. 2, East Chicago Heights, thursday at 1 p.m. Elder Marcus Irons, pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will be in Washington Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at Hammond and Prowell chapel. Family visitation will be held at the church Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
Mrs. Bates was born July 24, 1947, in Tutwiler, Miss., and lived in this area for 19 years. She was employed as a secretary for Thornton High School District No. 205.
Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Shannon of East Chicago Heights; her husband, Jewel S. Sr; two sons, Leroy and Jewel S. Jr. at home; three sisters, Julia Mae Shannon, Veola and Patricia L.; and grandparents, Mrs. Julia Young of Chicago Heights, James Shannon of St. Louis, Mo., and James Wiley of Los Angeles, Calif.
