George G. Bateman, 83, Cadott, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1988 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls. He was born on March 10, 1905, the son of Jessie (Kingsland) and Forest Bateman in the ToPn of Sigel. He married Naomi Boettcher on July 3, 1926 in St Paul, Minn. They lived in the Town of Anson for 10 years before moving to Flambeau in rural Holcombe, where he worked as a towerman for the Conversation Department for 28 years, retiring in 1970. He moved to Cadott in 1988. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cornell. Survivors include his wife; one son, Junior (Margret) Bateman of Chippewa Falls; one daughter Ruth (John) Justus of Bruce; three sisters, Irene (Robert) Mcllquham of Chippewa Falls, Elsie (John) Mcllquham of Chippewa Falls and Marion (Lloyd) Gilles of Cadott; six grandchildren; three stepgrandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; ten stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche LeMay and Margaret Stanley; and one brother, Clifford. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cornell, with the Rev. Jeffery Seelow officiating. Interment will be in the Bateman Cemetery, rural Chippewa Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Borton Funeral Home in Cornell and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
