Junior G. Bateman, 82, of the town of Lafayette, Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls.
He was born September 12, 1927 in the Town of Anson to Naomi (Boettcher) and George Bateman. He was raised in the town of Anson where he attended the Pine Grove School and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1945. He then worked for his uncle, John McIlquham in the Lafayette apple orchards.
Junior served in the U.S. Navy from January 9, 1947, serving in the Pacific Theatre, until being honorably discharged in January 9, 1952.
He married Kathryn Luedtke on January 13, 1951 in San Diego, CA, while serving in the Navy. After his discharge, they returned to Chippewa Falls and he has been a resident of the Town of Lafayette since that time. He farmed in the Bateman area and later on County Highway J in the Town of Lafayette. Kathryn preceded him in death in August, 1968.
He married Margret Kressin Gullickson on Sept. 26, 1970 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.
Junior was employed at the First National Bank and then at the Northwestern Bank, both in Chippewa Falls. He then was hired as a cashier at the Citizen's State Bank in Cadott in 1957, where he worked for 35 years, retiring as Bank President in 1992. He continued to serve on the bank board, retiring as Board Chairman in 1997.
He served as the Town Chairman for the town of Lafayette from 1957-1970 and was a member of the Cadott American Legion. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls where he was an usher and served on the Board of Elders.
Survivors include his wife, Margret of Chippewa Falls; two daughters, LuAnn (Dennis) Harm of Cadott, Carrie Marie (Terry) Jaquish of Chippewa Falls; three stepsons, Jerry (Pat) Gullickson of Forest Lake, MN, Ed (Joyce) Gullickson of Amery, John Gullickson of Alexandria, MN; a sister, Ruthie Justus of Bruce; nine grandchildren, Nick, Jessie, Marit, Christopher, Sara Rykal, Justin and Jenna Jaquish, Garrick and Kelly Harm; ten stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-granchildren.
Including his wife Kathryn, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Libbey Ann Rykal-Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 18 at Faith Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Revs. William Plautz and Craig Mathews officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 159 and VFW Post 6005, both of Cadott, will be in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 17 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Contributions in Junior's memory may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Big Drywood Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
