COLUMBUS, KANSAS; Eileen Basye, age 92, peacefully entered her heavenly rest at 8:24 am on Wed March 4, 2015 at Medicalodge in Columbus wither family by her side.

Aretha Eileen was born November 14, 1922 in Columbus KS. She was the daughter of Clarence J. and Mabel (Johnson) Allen of Center district, southwest of Columbus.

Eileen graduated from Cherokee County Community High School with the class of 1940, and later attended business college n Parsons, KS.
She was employed as bookkeeper and cashier for the J. C. Penny Co in Columbus, and Denver CO. from 1942 to 1944. Eileen moved to Joplin, MO in February, 1945 and was employed in the accounting department of Empire District Electric Co from 1945 – 1958.

Eileen was married to Harry P. Basye Jr, of Joplin, MO on September 24, 1950 at Center Christian Church, rural Columbus. They made their home on Airport Drive in Joplin until purchasing the ITCO Farm and Home Center in Columbus, July 1, 199. They retired December 31, 1986.
While living in Joplin, she was a member of First Christian Church where she taught a young people’s Sunday school class, was a soloist in the choir, and served two years as treasurer of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. From 1963 to 2969 she served as organist for Carl Junction Christian Church and Roney Funeral Home in Carl Junction.

At the time of her death, Eileen was a member of Center Christian Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school classes. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Columbus and American Rehabilitation Ministries in Joplin.

Eileen was preced in death by her husband on September 17, 1989, her parents, her sister, Marcella Starkweather, and two brothers, Cleo and Milas Allen. She is survived by one sister, Erma Stover, Columbus, two sisters-in-law, Alice Allen and Juanita Allen of Columbus and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Memorial services will be held at Center Christian Church on Saturday, March 7, at 2:00 pm.. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, southwest of Columbus. There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, on Friday, March 6 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to Center Christian Church or Greenlawn Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
