Margaret "Peggy" Bass was born on August 31, 1813 in Coles County, Illinois.

She met and married James Westley Teel, who lived in the North Okaw township of Coles County, Illinois at the time, then they moved to Gasconada County, Missouri, which, in 1841, became Osage county while they were living there.

They left Missouri and moved to Texas, arriving in 1849. In 1850, they lived in Henderson County, Texas.

While on their way to Corsicana in 1860, they were stopped at the Lacy Creek due to high water, and stayed for three weeks at the Pully Farm. During their stay James Westley died.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Stone Point, Van Zandt County, Texas, not far from the Pully Farm where her husband was buried.

On October 28, 1882, Margaret purchased 62 acres of land from H. L. Nicolson and his wife, Julia Ann. The land was on the Lacy Creek for $450 and a promissary note of $150, due on January 1, 1883. This land was part of a 369 A Headright survey of Daniel Chesher.

On September 13, 1889, Margaret sells her land to her son, Humphry McDaniel Teel for $150. The land includes: 100 acres near H. L. Nicholson's land, a 3 acre tract, and a 120 acre tract of land, survey of Margaret Teel, near E. Bline's land. A total of 223 acres of land.

The 100 acres and 3 acres tract of land is not recorded in Van Zandt County to Margaret. It is unknown how she obtained it. Speculation exists that James Westley purchased it before he died, but the likelyhood of his is low.

Margaret Teel made her will on September 8, 1887. She named her son, James Alexander Teel, her daughter Mary L. Lawley, her daughter Polly Ann Lawley, and her sons, Thomas Martin Teel and Humphrey McDaniel Teel Jr. (her grandson). Humphry McDaniel Teel, her son, and E. W. Lawley, son-in-law were the exeuctors of her will. The witnesses were: W. J. Greer, J. N. Riley and Humphrey McDaniel Teel.

She was buried in the High Cemetery, Van Zandt County, Texas after her death on February 23, 1893.
