Charlie was born to Stephan and Siranoosh Basmajian. He passed away at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie grew up in Selma, Ca., and was a proud graduate of Selma Union High School. He was a star lineman on the football team and a gifted clarinetist in the marching band and orchestra. Charlie's love of playing the clarinet continued throughout his life.
At age 17, Charlie assumed the responsibility of tending to the farm and caring for his mother and two younger sisters after his father's tragic death in 1939. Charlie loved the land on which he lived. Farming and gardening were his passions.
Charlie was a devoted member of St. Gregory Apostolic Church in Fowler, Ca.
He was also a dedicated 55-year member of the Knights of Vartan and Shriners International.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Eunice Basmajian; sister, Ann Hekimian and her husband Harold; niece, Pamela Mooradian and her husband Michael and their children, Susan and Dana; and nephew, Stephen Hekimian and his wife Sylva.
Viewing will be held at Page Funeral Chapel in Selma, Ca., on Thursday, February 2, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a short service at 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church in Fowler, Ca., on Friday, February 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 220 S. Third St., Fowler, Ca. 93625.
