SPRINGFIELD, MA - Albert R. Basile, 83, died Tuesday, April 12 in Longmeadow. He was born on September 8, 1921 in Springfield, to Giovanni & Giovannina Basile who settled here from Italy. Albert served as a Private in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1944. He worked for the City of Springfield in the Water Works Department for 30 years. Albert was also a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Viola (Bruni) Basile. Albert also leaves his son, Albert Basile, Jr. of Hyannis and his three daughters Maryanne Gibbs of Mashpee, Anna and her husband Andy Glaser of Westboro and Kathleen Foster of Kenai, Alaska. He will also be sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his brother, James Basile, of Springfield and his sister Angelina Nadeau, of Blanford. Albert was predeceased by his two brothers Joseph and Pasquale Basile and his sister Anna Reale. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 from Tazzini Funeral Home, corner of Locust & Main St., Springfield with a Mass in Holy Cross Church at 10. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church Renovation Fund, 221 Plumtree Rd. Springfield, MA 01118.
