Germaine Bartsch, age 81, of the Town of Sumner, just south of Canton, passed away very early Thursday morning, December 6, 2012 at her home just 3 miles from where she had been born. She was born July 14, 1931 to Robert & Minnie (Brandt) Bartsch and attended the little country school of Greenwood for 8 years. She graduated from Cameron High School where she had played the saxophone and enjoyed English. In order to help with college expenses, Germaine worked as a car-hop, nurse's aid and did cleaning to pay for a room in Rice Lake. She attended Barron County Teacher's College and signed for her first teaching contract before she was 18. She later completed her Bachelor's Degree at Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire. Germaine enjoyed teaching in one room schools, having as few as 11 and as many as 30 students. She admired how caring older students were for the younger ones, how slower students could review materials from previous grades without needing special aides & how the school programs were community events. Within Barron County Germaine taught at Lowell, Pokegema, Prairie Lake Heights & Whittier. She also taught 1 year in South Dakota. When the country schools closed, she taught primary grades in Franklin Elementary School in Rice Lake until retiring. She had been a member of several professional organizations. In 1987, Germaine opened a Reflexology business in her home at the corner of Hwy. 8 and County Road M. God used her hands to be a blessing to many. She "did feet" to improve circulation and relaxation. Tiredness forced her to quit "doing feet" about the middle of October of this year. Germaine believed people were on this earth for 2 reasons; to serve the Lord and to serve each other. She was a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cameron where she taught Sunday School, attended Bible Study and encouraged others to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Germaine also served the Lord as she served others. She would see a need and fill it. She was willing to help with whatever needed to be done whether it was milking the cows, piling the bales, mowing the lawn, cleaning, or hanging out the wash. These things were not only done for family, but also for others. Her family, friends & acquaintances are grateful for her example of Christian living, generous spirit, humble service & willingness to meet the needs of others. Germaine will continue to be an example of strength and be a part of many fond memories. She will be sadly missed.
Germaine was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Roberta Weiss, nephew: Kevin Weiss & brothers-in-law: Ted Graczyk & Bob Moore. She is survived by her brother: Alvin Bartsch of Rice Lake, sisters: Delores Moore of Cameron, Dorla Graczyk of Cameron & Eloma Joy Bartsch of Cameron and Osseo, brother-in-law: Fritz Weiss of Rice Lake, aunt: Gladys Tubbs of Barron, as well as 3 nieces, 4 nephews, great nieces & nephews, other relatives & many, many friends.
