He was a truck farmer living on Walters Road just outside Hapeville.  He was shot and killed by his brother-in-law, Guy Wallace.  The shooting occurred in self defense during a gun battle which was the result of a family quarrel at Barton's home.  Barton's wife was a sister of Mr Wallace.
