Mrs. Barton became a Springfield resident in 1925. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Franklin Life Insurance Company for 20 years and served on the board of directors there. She was founder of the social club, Sepia Celebs, in 1938. She served as the first president and treasurer of Springfield Urban League Guild.
Surviving are one son, Roland D. "Buzzie" Barton II; two daughters, Donnita Barton Dwlania and Ronda Barton Hicks; her mother, Mrs. Cora B. Maddox; one brother, Lynell Leake; three grandchildren.
Services at Sacred Heart Church. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
